FRAMEWORKS FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF DOUBLE DEGREE PROGRAMS

Double Degree Programs

About

Participating at a double degree program can be, if done correctly, an amazing experience for students, as well as for the home and host institutions. In addition to improving career prospects, and building professional networks, the intent is to enhance what is already offered at the home institution by incorporating new academic or research experience, allowing the student to complete a program at both institutions.

Type

  • Master's Level: It allows the completion of one Master's level program at two institutions.

  • Doctoral: It allows the completion of a Doctoral level program at two institutions

In both cases, institutions create new arrangements in line with the formal program expectations and requirements, but with the intent of leveraging the unique advantages that originate from the conjunction of both programs.

Learning Approach

Partner Involvement

  • Requirements: Universities follow a number of formal procedures to ensure a double degree program meet their respective requirements in order to make sure a degree can be given after completion of the program.

  • Supervisors: It is the work of the supervisors that make possible the establishment of the double degree programs as it must not only meet local expectations but also create extraordinary learning conditions for the student.

In addition to the meeting academic and other requirements of both institutions, the student is exposed to the contradictions, similarities, unknowns, differences, and everything in between the extremes of a knowledge spectrum. It is the decisions and approaches of the supervisors together that inform and guide the student into exploring their studies and research. While institutions take care of the logistical aspects of the program, the action resides in the learning process the student is exposed to.
